ESS: Feeling of safety of walking alone in local area after dark?

In European Social Survey, the following question is asked:

How safe do you – or would you – feel walking alone in this area after dark? Do – or would – you feel…

Caterogical answers were given, such as: 
1 – Very safe
2 – Safe
3 – unsafe
4 – Very unsafe
Mean score value was calculated from the answers and tabulated according to gender and marital status, as seen below, with the comparison of year 2002, 2004 and 2006:

MeThink: on average…
– women feel less safe as compared to men.
– both gender feel the least safe on year 2004 but improve on year 2006.
– for men, the feeling of safety: never married > divorced > married > separated > widowed.
– OTOH, the women feel the safety vs. marital status: married > never married > divorced > separated > widowed.
