Malaysia: Where do students study abroad?

In year 2005, there were 42 712 Malaysian students went abroad for study. 38 784 of them chose to study in OECD countries while the rest went to non-OECD countries. Below here shows the breakdown of destinations where Malaysian students chose to go:

    Just wonder if Australia is a leading education exporter or simply because of the geography [9hrs flight from east or 7hrs from west].

    There are few reasons I believe: 1) the currency. If the quality difference between Australia uni and US uni is not differing much, then the students will choose to go for a lower cost Australia uni. Moreover, both countries use english. Geography could explain a bit, closer to home, easier for travel and visiting. But that should not be a main factor I believe…

      Australia does not only offer a student an opportunity to advance their academic career – but also to have a life he / she could have but for the education there. It’s a land of opportunities – irrespective of the background.
