ESS: Are you happy?

In European Social Survey, the following question is asked:

Taking all things together, how happy would you say you are?

Caterogical answers were given, such as: 0 for extremely unhappy and 10 for extremely happy. Mean score value was calculated from the answers and tabulated according to gender and marital status, as seen below, with the comparison of year 2002, 2004 and 2006:

MeThink: overall, the happiness decrease over the years. More observations:
– Female is slightly happier than male.
– For both gender on average, the happiness scale goes from: married > never married/single > divorced > separated/widowed.
