Back in Malaysia, I read from this blog and this mentioning that government was said to set up a task force to study the need to monitor websites which contain porn and other seditious content. Well, from the brief glimpse, most of them do not support it because: 1) government got better thing to focus on, 2) censorship on blogs (which actually was believed is the main reason). Putting all these reasons aside, should porn websites be monitored/banned by government?
Well, saying that I do not want white colour does not neccessarily mean I want black colour. However, porn websites is kinda like categorical option to me: to be or not to be there. So back to those Malaysians think that government should not monitor or ban porn sites, have they thought of pornography is degrading to women, as argued in these points? Or rather, they think it is ok for the porn websites to be there for this reason, whereby internet porn reduced sex crime? I am interested to know.

malaysia being malaysia… porn will not be openly tolerated. of cos, what happen behind the scene is totally different story.

it’s ridiculous to even think abut banning ‘malaysian’ porn sites when there are millions of porn sites elsewhere! it’s just impossible to regulate porn sites. why don’t they think about sexual health education or run programmes about respecting one’s body instead?
all this banning business is called-fix and it’s pretty short term to me. the trick is to teach teach teach teach teach 🙂

well, I dont think it is banning about Made in Malaysia’s porn site only, it is more like filtering the porn sites, overseas or local. If China managed to filter the websites, it is possible to be done in Malaysia too.
I read somewhere that MoE had worked with Minister of Woman on producing the curriculum on sexual health education already, last year or earlier this year time. Well, I believe in teaching too, but I am interested to note that if this is the case, why some feminists still want to ban porn sites? With or without Malaysia’s context?
