Value added Tax (VAT), or GST for some countries, in comparison to Malaysia, who is planning to impose GST at 5%.

    sweden charged such high VAT but they give their citizen very good medical care…. maternity leave …. paid maternity leave is 16 months i think.

    yup, sweden afford to give good medical care because they tax your income tax as high as 48.4% (single and average earner) and 42.7% (married and 2 kids) [https://micpohling.wordpress.com/2007/04/08/oecd-taxation-on-wage-earners/]. So imagine if half of your income goes to gomen, it has to be damn good.

    🙂 well as i mentioned earlier on, if half of your income goes to gomen directly, and you have to spend additional 25% on your expenditures for any items/services you got, they might not only give you optical assistance, they give you free university fee (and also to foreign students as well, plus with life subsidy/allowance), wonderful medical care etc etc.
    These things are wonderful, and more often than not, we as non-swedish are looking at them with a lot of envy feeling. But these things do not come free. Eventually the money which gomen got is actually coming from its citizen, coming from the ordinary people like you and me. But when it comes to the freedom of choice: you prefer a large portion of your money to go to gomen to do all the arrangement for you, or you yourself have the control over the money you earn and spend the way you want?
